DSNA2.jpg2008 Summer Block Party

Good day, Neighbors!

A beautiful, sunny Saturday was followed by gusty winds, dark skies, drizzle turning to heavy rain, just as the 4 p.m. set-up was under way.? Imagine about a dozen of us neighbors getting wet, holding our breath in hopes that the forecast of "scattered" showers would be just that.? The fire engine drove up to entertain the kids, thanks to a longtime 4700 block DS neighbor and fire fighter, and seemed to extinguish the RAIN!? Once the skies cleared, neighbors came, and we had a great turnout. ?

What followed on June 28th was a lively, congenial block party, complete with glorious weather, an especially delicious spread of food,? BBQ that just kept on coming, an outstanding animal show for the kids, 300 water balloons, and lots of winners at the cake walk.? Tremendous thanks to those of you who attended. Thank? you also to those neighbors who were unable to attend, but who reached out with cakes or $$ contributions.? Special thanks to the folks on block 4700 who contributed so much that day in time, spirit, effort, as well as any number of household appliances and gadgets.? For those of you who could not attend, we hope to see you there next time.?

I feel strongly that this event goes a long way in forwarding our goal of cooperation in our neighborhood.? When the sky cleared, I took it as a symbol of clarity: that this friendly, safe atmosphere for neighbors, young and old, is worth fighting for, worth "preserving," as much as architectural character and density is. ?

We would greatly appreciate any block party photos you'd like to pass on to us. ?Just send them to
